You are more intuitive than
observant, you are more thinking based than feeling based, and you
prefer to go with the flow rather than have a routine. The single word
to describe your type is the Architect, which belongs to the larger
group of rationals. You wish to sculpt the world around you. Others
often find you arrogant, yet you have no desire to direct others, only
to inform them. You must know the structure of things, and have a
voracious appetite for knowledge. You are very rational in everything
you do, and probably consider yourself smarter than most.

As a romantic partner, you can be playful with great energy to get
things started, but not quite as good on follow through. You may have a
tendency to hurt the more emotional types unintentionally by not
sharing your own reactions and feelings as you can get swept up in your
own ideas and projects. You want to be appreciated for your ability to
respond quickly and to fix problems creatively. You need plenty of time
to yourself - therefore your parnter must respect your need for
independence and originality.

Your group summary: Rationals (NT)

Your type summary: INTP

My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 11% on I to E

You scored higher than 15% on N to S

You scored higher than 58% on F to T

You scored higher than 57% on J to P

Link: The LONG Scientific Personality Test written by unpretentious2 on OkCupid Free Online Dating, home of the 32-Type Dating Test

~Charlie

I'm not English or anything but I think it's so sad that they are overlooked on Independence Day. How do you think they feel?! All these Americans going around celebrating all the America they have, but what do English people have? Nothing! Being happy about things that other people don't have is really insensitive. That's why I think that English people should unite on the 4th of July and tell everybody they exist and how they don't need America to have happy and fulfilled lives and we'll call it English Awareness Day (EAD.)

Anyway! The 4th of July was just invented by greeting card companies to sell <strike>flowers and chocolate</strike> fireworks. ;_;

~Charlie

P.S.: Some may postulate that I have already posted this message on MySpace. <lj:music>KOMPRESSOR - IF I WAS A RABBIT</lj:music>

I graduated highschool today. On a boat. It was pretty awesome. The ceremony (if it can be called that) was pretty minimal, and I couldn't eat the food, so I mostly just had my picture taken alot.

One at a time, they had us walk to the front of the boat and said a few words about us. Then they handed us our diplomas and moved on to the next graduate.

I knew maybe half of the other graduates, in the loosest sense of the word. A couple of them went to the same school I went to last year, and a couple others I'd ridden the bus with, but I'd never had a class with any of them. The way my school works, you get the same teacher and roughly five classmates all year, so if you don't put in the extra effort to be social, you probably won't get to know anyone else all too well. To complicate things further, students were also separated by time of day. Most of the other graduates went to school in the morning, but I went in the afternoon, 'cause I <3 late nights.

There was one guy from another class who would lend me books all the time. He was cool. I think he was graduating too, but he wasn't there.

I would have liked to send out an announcement to all my local friends/closer friendly acquaintances/family, and let whoever felt like showing up do so, but since it was on a boat there wasn't enough room, so I just invited my immediate family, exchange student, Japanese teacher, one of my cousins who was in town, but wouldn't be able to make it to the little thing we were planning later with family, and my friend Kenton who I've known since I was like four or something. As is that was pushing the limit, but some people didn't come, so there were extra tickets.

My back hurts if I stand a lot. This is especially true on boats and dancefloors and other things that don't stay still like they're supposed to. I should learn some good stretches or something.

My friend Mari is trying to get me into swing dancing. It's a lot of fun, but waaay different from what I am used to. I am trying to be at least a little more active and social than I have been in the last few years, so that's probably a good thing. I don't know if this will become a new hobby for me, yet. It isn't very easy for me, and I keep getting mixed feelings, but I think if I can manage to stick with it it will be totally worth it in the long run. *Crosses fingers*

This fall I will be starting half time at Mount Hood Community College, and looking into a part time job.

I guess that's it for now. May report more later.

~Charlie

Stolen from Krista.

ANGER

1. Who did you last get angry with? I don't know.
I don't get -really- angry very often. Possibly someoen who didn't deserve it.

2. What is your weapon of choice?
Insults. ._.

3. Would you hit a member of the opposite sex?
No. I wasn't raised to treat females and males very differently, and I always thought it was stupid, but somehow I can't bring myself to hit a girl, even playfully. How odd! I suppose I might if I were in a situation in which the only escape was through physical violence, but if that were the case I'd be pretty screwed anyway. Haha.

4. How about of the same sex?
Maybe. It would be a little out of character, though. I am not one to resort to violence, and I'm not generally a very physical person when I'm just playing around.

5. Who was the last person who got really angry at you?
Really angry? Ahh. It's been a while, at least that I know of. I try not to tread on too many toes, especially in any sort of severe way.

6. What is your pet peeve?
The word "peeve" like I keep saying. Also loud people.

7. Do you keep grudges, or can you let them go easily?
Ahhh. I have a good memory. If someone does something that really bothers me, and it never gets resolved to my satisfaction, any hard feelings will probably stick around for a while. =>.o= Not something I'm very proud of, though.

SLOTH

1. What is one thing you're supposed to do daily that you haven't done in a while?
Floss. =>.<= Grk. Also Japanese homework.

2. What is the latest you've ever woken up?
Not counting being sick and waking up at weird times, probably four or fivish?

3. Name a person you've been meaning to contact, but haven't:
My old art teacher, Melissa. She is awesome.

4. What is the last lame excuse you made?:
"I didn't get around to it." or "I procrastinated too long and then it was too late."

5. Have you ever watched an infomercial all the way through?:
I don't remember. I've watched for a while, but I don't think start to finish,

6. When was the last time you got a good workout in?
I walked to Blockbuster on Tuesday! It's not too far though. ._.

7. How many times did you hit the snooze button on your alarm clock today?:
Zero! I just stayed in bed for 32 minutes before getting up to turn it off.

GLUTTONY

1. What is your overpriced beverage of choice?
I don't drink a lot, and mostly water when I do. Sparkling Cider is good, and I assume it costs more than some drinks 'cause it's in a glass bottle! Haha.

2. Meat eater:
Vegan.

3. What is the greatest amount of alcohol you've had in one sitting/outing/event?:
One time I tried to make a flambe out of ramen! The only alcohol in the house was something for cooking that was like lemon-something, so I lit that. I don't think I got drunk!

4. Have you ever used a professional diet company?:
Nah.

5. Do you have an issue with your weight?:
I don't weigh enough, but it doesn't bother me too much.

6. Do you prefer sweets, salty foods, or spicy foods?:
All three! But not too strong, especially with the spicy foods.

7. Have you ever looked at a small house pet or child and thought "LUNCH"?
No. I avoid thinking "LUNCH" in all caps like that. It's stupid.

LUST

1. How many people have you seen naked (not counting movies/family)?:
Like zero! Unless you count things on the internet you stumble across on accident (things that aren't movies, I mean, obviously) or very small children.

2. How many people have seen YOU naked (not counting physicians/family)?
Again like zero, except possibly when I was, myself, a very young child!

3. Have you ever caught yourself staring at the chest/crotch of a member of your gender of choice during a normal conversation?:
=>.<=  Probably.

4. Have you "done it"?
Nope.

5. What is your favorite body part on a person of your gender of choice?
I don't have like a favorite anything, okay! Like seriously. My favorite color is "green." That's it. No more! Stop asking me these questions.

6. Have you ever been propositioned by a prostitute?
I would -think- I would remember that, but for some reason my brain is being very noncommital. How odd! Gonna say "no" though.

7. Have you ever had to get tested for an STD or pregnancy?
No.  Maybe I should take the pregnancy one just to make sure.  ;_;

GREED

1. How many credit cards do you own?
None.

2. What's your guilty pleasure store?
Oh, so I go to STORES now, is it? Pffft!

3. If you had 1 million dollars, what would you do with it?
Dunno. Probably spend some of it, and save the rest.

4. Would you rather be rich, or famous?
Probably rich. I don't have a particular desire to be either, though. At least being rich would save me a bunch of trouble with like not starving to death and stuff.

5. Would you accept a boring job if it meant you would make megabucks?
Probably not in the long run. I dunno.

6. Have you ever stolen anything?
Remember that date I told you guys about a while back? Yeah. I think I also stole a library pencil on accident at one point.

7. How many MP3's are on your hard drive?
Didn't count. Less than a lot of people. Most of my game soundtracks are in another format.

PRIDE

1. What's one thing you have done that you're most proud of?
Depends on the sort of pride, but I've not done anything too big, ever.

2. What's one thing you have done that your parents are most proud of?
No idea.

3. What's one thing you would like to accomplish in your life?
Make a full length video game.

4. Do you get annoyed by coming in second place?
Ah, I'm a little competitive, yeah. I don't really care, though.

5. Have you ever entered a contest of skill, knowing you were of much higher skill than all the other competitors?
Not that I remember.

6. Have you ever cheated on something to get a higher score?
Heroes of Might and Magic II! Haha.

7. What did you do today that you're proud of?
I've no idea. Haven't done a lot today.

ENVY

1. What item of your friends would you most want to have for your own?
There are some games I want that I'm sure some of my friends have, but other than that, I can't think of anything.

2. Who would you want to go on "Trading Spaces" with?
What's the premise of that? Like living in someone else's house or something? Haha. I'd really prefer to stay here, for now. Maybe my brother. I used to envy his room so much, 'cause it's all out of the way, and closer to where the internet plugs in, and stuff, but I don't really care anymore.

3. If you could be anyone else in the world, who would you be?
Man I bet it would be awesome to be KOMPRESSOR. You know, supposing I never had to meet any of my fans. Ha ha.

4. Have you ever been cheated on?
I think that would be a difficult thing to do.

5. Have you ever wished you had a physical feature different from your own?
My teeth are kinda ehhh. ._.

6. What inborn trait do you see in others that you wish you had for yourself?
Persistance, social aptitude. Maybe. I dunno.

7. Do you wish you'd come up with this survey?
Nah.

~Charlie

Stoled from Nikki.

Survey, 2006.
What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
Not buy cigarettes! Legally!

Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Did I even make New Years' resolutions last year? I can't seem to recall. Oh dear. Haha.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
No, but my aunt and uncle adopted someone!

Did anyone close to you die?
My cousin Brandon wasn't very close, but kinda, you know?

What countries did you visit?
Hawaii! Washington!

What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
Awesome super powers.

What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I ate a fair number really, but none of them were what I'd call "stand-out dates." Still tasty.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Below average whining during family get-togethers!

What was your biggest failure?
I didn't really try to accomplish much to begin with, so not much to fail. Eheh!

Did you suffer illness or injury?
The first few days in Hawaii I was sure my skin had decided to fall apart on me.

What was the best thing you bought?
The Broken Saints DVDs, probably!

Whose behavior merited celebration?
Lots of people, I'm sure. Kay was really there, though.

Whose behavior made you appalled?
Appalled? Ehhhhh. I rarely get attached enough to people people I don't like to be -appalled- by them.

Where did most of your money go?
My wallet.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Buying the Broken Saints DVDs. I still haven't watched them yet, though. ;_; 'Cept the first one. I refuse to watch them alone. Anyone around here got twelve hours lying around? Haha.

What song will always remind you of 2005?
I was introduced to a fair number this year, but I doubt any will remind me of this year specifically. If any do I'd guess something by Machinae Supremacy or MC Frontalot.

Compared to this time last year, are you:

a) Happier or sadder? I was much more sensible when I was seventeen.

b) Thinner or fatter? About the same I would imagine.

c) Richer or poorer? Not sure!

What do you wish you'd done more of?
Working on Thief's Honor.

What do you wish you'd done less of?
Moping about.

How did you spend Christmas?
At home in the morning and then with cousins and grandparents.

Did you fall in love in 2005?
No.

How many one-night stands?
No way in hell I'd stand that long.

What was your favorite TV programme?
I didn't watch like any TV all year. Been keeping up with Bleach and Naruto, though. Of those - Bleach, hands down.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nah.

What was the best book you read?
The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman. Maybe.

What was your greatest musical discovery?
Who knows!

What did you want and get?
Some potato chips!

What did you want and not get?
There were some books I had like no luck finding at the library!

What was your favourite film of this year?
None come to mind as a favorite.

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Eighteen! I think I hung out on the internet.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
Overshirt over undershirt! Darker colors! Pants!

What kept you sane?
Kay.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
;_; Farewell, KOMPRESSOR.

What political issue stirred you the most?
Frustration with partisan thought.

Who did you miss?
Curtis and some other good friends.

Who was the best new person you met?
Megan.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:
More of the same!

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Ugh no! <lj:music>Legend of Mana - Wandering Path</lj:music>

Well, I WAS going to just let the subject be the whole entry, solely to infuriorate certain nameless people who will from this point forward be refered to as Sitruc.. Err.. Cedric! However, I fear the retributions for such actions (as, clearly, anyone named Cedric cannot be entirely in their own mind, and there is no telling what ghastly deeds they might inflict if provoked. I mean, the owl in King's Quest V was named Cedric and he was...like... Actually he was kinda cute. Aww.) And as such! I shall elaborate further.

Firstly: My cousins drove in the night before our departure, 'cause we all had tickets on like the same plane. Which was convenient, I guess. I only have four cousins on my mom's side, and they are all from the same family, but the two eldest are moved out and live in like Seattle and Canada, whereas the rest of them live in Walla Walla, I think. Anyway, they stayed the night. I don't actually remember what happened that night. Probably I hung out on here and pestered you guys. Like whining about "Waaah. ;_; I have to go to the most wonderfullest place in the world ever. Feel sorry for me."

Anyway, we left in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. Ten or eleven. I think. Can't recollect. I remember the airport was vaguely stressful.

On the plane I ended up sitting between my youngest cousin, Jennifer (well, youngest on that side anyway, and not any more even, 'cause her parents are adopting like a thousand more babies for some reason (they actually got one of them while we were away,)) and another girl, whose name I would surely know were I a more talkative person. Which is not to say I ignored her. In fact, I have compiled our conversation into a screenplay entitled A Conversation with the Nameless One, which I will share with you now.

A Conversation with the Nameless One
by Charles Moor
(based on a true story)

CHARLIE, JENNY, and NAMELESS are standing in a PLANE with assorted PASSENGERS.

CHARLIE: Would you like the window?

NAMELESS: Sure.

They all sit down.

Time passes.

NAMELESS: I need to go to the bathroom.

CHARLIE and JENNY: Okay.

They get up.

The end.

I don't know how true the movie is to actual events, but it delivers the message well enough.

The plane ride wasn't bad. Like five or six hours, and there was an in-flight movie! I've never seen a movie on a plane before (or since, but I'm getting ahead of myself.) It wasn't much unlike seeing a movie in a car, though. I have done that. Not too bad. The movie was Wallace and Grommet and the Curse of the Were-Rabbit or something like that. It was kinda neat, but nothing to write home about, so instead I wait 'til I get home and write about it to you guys. Ha ha.

The six hour flight didn't seem all that long. I'm not actually sure if that's the longest I've spent on a plane. Mostly I've only ever flown to California. Some places in California are an hour-and-a-half flight away. Other places in California I don't fly to. But I have flown to Arkansas. When I went there it was two separate planes, though, and I don't remember how long each was.

I read on the plane. I read a fair amount while I was there, but far less than I was worried I might. I still have half a book to read, and that's not counting my backup book.

First impression of Hawaii was that the air was wet. Ehhhh. It was also pretty bright out. However I will admit that the weather in Hawaii is not entirely unpleasant. In the dead of winter. At night. To all you people who want to go in the summer, during broad daylight: What the fuck are you THINKING? =o.O= You'd boil to a crisp. Some cultures used boil people as torture, and here you are talking about it as if it's the most pleasurable thing in the world. I'm all for masochism and all (I mean, not for me personally - I'm afraid to get my blood drawn,) but that's just insane!

Seriously.

It might have helped, too, if I didn't loath sunblock so much. I ended up spending most of my days there wearing an extra layer of long pants and a long-sleeve shirt in order to keep the sun off me. At least I didn't burn!

After we left the airport we rented a van with like fifteen seats. There were eight of us, so it was actually fairly roomy, which is good, since we spent a lot of time in it, but I understand it was pretty hell to drive. Mostly my cousin, Robyn drove it. He used to drive firetrucks, I think, so at least he had some good experience with longer vehicles.

The house we stayed at belonged to an oldish 7th Day Adventist woman, who may or may not have been a previous acquaintance of my grandfather's. It seems like every 7th Day Adventist knows every other 7th Day Adventist. It's creepy.

I was raised a 7th Day Adventist, more or less, as were both my parents, but I don't actually know a whole lot about the denomination. I know that they go to Church on Saturdays, don't eat meat, and don't believe in hell. They also believe that people don't go to heaven until Judgment Day. They can be kinda legalistic. Aren't supposed to dance or go to movie theaters or wear jewelry (including wedding rings!) and for some reason nearly every family I've seen seems to think that the best way to honor their holy day is to ban television (whether or not they think to keep an eye on anything else.) Despite all that, their underlying doctrines are actually supposed to be fairly liberal, politically speaking, though I haven't always experienced that in all of my relatives.

I am more used to my father's side of the family, which seems to be made up almost entirely of outstanding Christians (I mean that neither as a positive or a negative, though in some cases it may carry connotations of one or the other.) My cousins on my mother's side have struck me in general as more rebellious. I don't actually know where most of them stand, religiously, but I did feel slightly less out of place among them in that regard than I have come to expect with family.

On the other hand they bickered constantly, at times - another thing I haven't experienced as much with my father's side. I realize they're all siblings, but I guess I had started to think that that sort of thing was something people grew out of after they developed basic reasoning (an admittedly odd conclusion considering I'm in HIGHSCHOOL*) [Editor's note: At this point my hands started shaking uncontrollably, so I spent the rest of the evening looking up information on Parkinson's Disease. They seem fine now though, so maybe I was just tired or something.] I guess I'm just lucky. My brother is awesome. We get along great.

That night we ate at a Chinese restaurant. I had rice and vegetables. And mushrooms. Mushrooms own. It was pretty stressful, though. I need to get out of the habit of letting people order for me. It doesn't actually make things easier.

After that, we went to Food Land, the local grocery store. I got bored of looking at things that I couldn't eat, so I went to stand out front and discover that Hawaii is infested with mosquitoes. That night was not the last I saw of them, either.

Slept in a room with my brother and my two male cousins, Robyn and Brent. Some of whom snored loudly on occasion. But I did actually sleep fairly well most of the time there.

On Thursday my brother let me use his cell phone to call my friend Megan (not Quri. A local person.) Called her a few times while I was there. It helped a lot to have someone back home to talk to, but I worry I might have called a time or two too often. *Clueless as it comes to phone etiquette* [Editors note: At this point I had to leave again, to go ice skating with some cousins on my fathers side of the family. Upon returning it has become apparent that I am not made for athletics.]

People wished to go snorkeling, that day, so we found a little, quiet beach behind some houses. I opted to sit in the shade some place and dig a hole. It was a neat little hole, but then I got paranoid about unearthing something deadly, so I filled it back up. *Nods sagely* Meanwhile my cousin Jodi saw an eel and a sea turtle.

In the evening we went shopping in Waikiki. I bought a bag of potato chips and a Jamba Juice. I didn't want to waste all my spending money so early on, though I was considering gift shopping, so I ended up not buying anything else. It was just as well. Those shops didn't have much interesting, and it was mostly over priced.

They have a chain of stores there called ABC. There is an ABC here in Oregon that is short for Adventist Book Center, so I was a little disconcerted when I followed my brother into one of them to see a shelf full of erotic magazines. For a second I thought the church I'd been born into had gone a bit lax in their standards, but it turns out the two aren't related.

Anyway, these ABC stores were EVERYWHERE in Waikiki. One on every corner sort of thing, though not literally. The different locations seemed to carry different merchandise. Some had souvenirs, some food, et cetera, but they were largely unimpressive.

I almost bought a towel from an old lady who didn't speak English very well. She was showing it to me and I was trying to seem respectful and interested or what have you, which apparently came out sounding something like "Yes, I would like to buy this towel." My brother stopped me though and we left. I feel kind of bad for leading her on like that, though. =>.o=

Friday we went to some sea animal place. They had some performing dolphins and sea lions and stuff. It was kinda neat.

After that we went to the beach again. We stopped at one of those things that's a parking lot with a bunch of stores and stuff on the way, for lunch. What do you call those? I ate a salad at Subway with potato chips. This time a Hawaiian brand, that was crisper and maybe a little less oily than Lays. There really wasn't a lot I could eat there, but as long as there are still plain potato chips in the world, I will never starve.

I also bought a sugar cane which was practically made of wood. I sincerely hope I did not dull any of our hostess' kitchen knives trying to peel and cut it.

At the beach I sat in the shade again and read.

People had been complaining a lot about stuff. Apparently people didn't like the sorts of things we were doing, and didn't like doing everything as a group, and whatever. I was kind of indifferent, since I went to Hawaii -expecting- to be miserable. I think for once the idea that "a pessimist will never be disappointed" proved it contained some actual legitimacy, after all, though I still think it makes for a stupid, inaccurate motto.

Anyway, there wasn't a lot to be done about doing everything as a group - we only had one car, and the place we were staying wasn't very close to anything, and to my grandfather, doing stuff as a family was kind of the whole point to begin with. That night we did resolve to get more of a consensus on our daily plans, and such, though, which seemed to work -okay- as a way to stop the whining.

Saturday morning we went to church. The church had two separate services, an English one and a Japanese one (there are a lot of Japanese people in Hawaii.) I sat in on the latter. Being the tallest person in a full room is a rather odd feeling to me. I didn't understand the sermon or songs or anything. Words here and there. I tried to sing along with the hymns, since they displayed the words mostly in Hiragana via a projector. I don't usually sing hymns, but I figured it was good practice, this time.
The people were really nice. I sat next to an elderly blind man and his wife. I don't think he was Japanese, himself, but she might have been. They were friends of my grandfather, I think. The old man announced my visitation to the rest of the congregants, and a lady came and greeted me and gave me a little, yellow, knitted lei. After the service I was also personally introduced to the pastor and his wife and daughter, who all spoke some English. The daughter, at least, I am sure is fluent. The old man kept telling people I was going to be a missionary in Japan. I'm sure he was joking, but it was still a little awkward. Eheh.

After church we went to a garden that had a bunch of trees. I walked around and looked at them, but they weren't all that impressive for the most part. My brother wanted me to GM a little freeform roleplay with him, but I was feeling very uninspired, and it didn't really take off.

On Sunday people were planning to go surfing, but it was really windy, and the waves were bad for it. We went up to the north shore of the island, where there had been some sort of huge surfing competition the day before. I guess my cousins thought there might still be some professionals surfing there. There weren't.

On the way we stopped by a little stand that sold coconuts and smoothies and stuff. Megan had insisted that I drink out of a coconut at some point while I was in Hawaii, so I got one there. The water inside a coconut is almost like some sort of soda, but a little bitter. It was odd, but not bad. After I was finished with the water they cut the coconut in half and cut out the meat. It was kind of good, but there was quite enough in one coconut that I don't think I will want to repeat the experience for a while.

That evening we went back to Waikiki, but this time we hung out along the beach, more. My brother and I got separated from our other cousins while we were looking at some shops. I saw some neat little masks at what I was pretty sure was a cheaper price than I'd seen on Thursday, but we had some bigger shopping plans for later, and I still didn't want to waste money before then, so I didn't get any. We looked around at some more shops for a while, and then found a place to sit down and read until it was time to leave.

On Monday we'd planned to go to the Polynesian Culture Center, but there was a luau there that we wanted to go to, and it didn't take place on Monday, so we decided to go Tuesday instead. But Tuesday was the day we'd pushed our surfing plans to, and some of my cousins were kind of freaking out, because apparently you can't go to Hawaii and not surf. I didn't know that. Still don't. Ha. The best surfing was supposed to be on the north shore, but it was too far away, at that point, and we wouldn't have had much time there, so we decided to go try Waikiki. The waves there were really small, but none of us were really experienced enough for that to matter.

People weren't sure what to do with their stuff, so I offered to watch it. It beat being pushed into actually -doing- something. I read and talked on the phone pretty much all afternoon, which worked pretty well.

In the evening we went to the Ala Moana shopping center. It was exactly like every other mall on the face of the universe. Once again I didn't buy anything. My brother bought some books though. There were also some underage dancers performing there. I thought they were hula dancers at the time, but apparently that weird hip shaking dance and hula are different things. I watched them some, but walking for any extended period of time in malls invariably hurts my back, so I had to sit down.

On Tuesday we went to the Polynesian Culture Center. The different islands had some presentations that you could sit in on. Some were more interesting or entertaining than others. The Samoan one was pretty funny, I thought. The Hawaiian one was mostly on music and stuff. That's where I learned that thing about hula and that other dance. I also learned that "ukulele" means something to the extent of "Jumping head lice." A couple presentations had sort of hand dances you could participate in. I tried, but I'm very uncoordinated and I couldn't keep up.

At four or so there was an IMAX video about coral reefs. I've seen better. There's a really good theater like that here in Oregon.

After the movie was the luau and then this show called Horizons. The luau did not have potato chips. There was rice, though. I ended up eating rice with lemon juice and salt, as well as some salad, oranges, and purple sweet potatoes, which were plain. It was not a meal worth 23 dollars, even with the dancers in the background, but I didn't pay with my own money, so oh well.

My grandfather couldn't fund everything, so he encouraged us to bring our own money to pay for the various events and items we would encounter there. I don't have a job, and had no intention of squandering the roughly two hundred dollars I had saved up on some vacation I didn't even really want to go on, since until I get a real income, any and all money I spend is gone indefinitely, but I certainly wasn't going to ask for more money from my grandfather - I already felt guilty enough for him buying my ticket - and I didn't want to mooch off of anyone else either. It was a difficult position. I figured I would just go and face the consequences of not being able to afford anything. Sit it out, I guess. But in the end my parents forced me to accept a couple hundred dollars to be spent on necessities and things dealing with the "Hawaiian experience" or what have you. I think I returned about half of it to them when I got back. I did bring some of my own money to buy souvenirs, though.

Horizons was basically a series of dances from the different Polynesian islands, accompanied with fancy lighting effects and stuff. It was kind of interesting, but my eyes are not rightly trained to appreciate any sort of dance for a very long time. The last island showcased (Samoa,) though, had a bunch of fire dances. Lots of torch spinning and all that. Really, really awesome. There was also one where people would walk through fire, or even sit on it. Probably had special clothes for it under their grass skirts, or something, but it was still really amazing. I think the fire dancing was probably one of the trip's biggest highlights.

After Horizons I knocked someone over. ._. It was a big show, and there were a lot of people there, so on the way out that meant there was a huge crowd leaving. I was separated from my cousins once, which left me a bit lost. I cannot multitask. At all. This includes things like keeping track of another person while at the same time keeping track of my surroundings in a strange place. I'd been following people around all day, and thus had no idea where I was, so I just kinda stopped and waited. My cousin Brent came back for me, and this time I was determined not to be left behind again, so I sped up a bit. I was weaving between some people and I guess I bumped into someone. I looked over my shoulder and she was on the ground, on her hands and knees, a dropped purse in front of her. I think she was a young Asian lady, but I didn't get a very good look. I went back to make sure she was alright. She almost looked like she was crying, but I could have been imagining things. She looked up and said something like "It's okay" or "I'm okay" or something, and I didn't want to keep my cousins waiting again so I bolted. I think I really could have handled that better. I forget if I even remembered to apologize. =>.<=

In the van people were teasing me about it. I felt kinda bad, but the teasing didn't bother me. I hope she wasn't hurt too much. =>.o=

Wednesday was our last day there, with the exception of my grandfather and step grandmother, who are staying in Hawaii for another week or so. That morning we went to the Swap Meet, which is like this huge market that circles all the way around some type of stadium. Dunno what sort of sport was played in there. I finally bought some things there. There was this cool mask that I got for like ten dollars. Elsewhere it would have been in the twenty - thirty range, so I figure it was a good deal. My father's side of the family does a gift exchange every Christmas, so I think I will use it for that.

After a couple hours of wandering around the Swap Meet and buying things, we went snorkeling again, this time at Hanauma Bay, which is supposed to be like the best snorkeling spot in Hawaii. I was going to sit it out, again, but my grandfather kept pressuring me to try. I didn't have any sunscreen on, so I was only in the water for a few minutes. I saw a few fish. They kind of creeped me out. Could never stay down for more than a few seconds without panicking. I should have given it more of a chance, I guess, but as it was it was a pretty miserable experience.

I think my grandfather knows I'm not a Christian anymore, now. In retrospect, I think he was aware back when I was first really questioning it, and my brother mentioned me being an Agnostic in his presence once while we were there. He didn't say anything. There was no drama about it, anyway, so that's good.

We left late Wednesday evening. Oregon time it was actually already Thursday. The in-flight movie was going to be Dukes of Hazard or something. Never seen it before. The tape was jammed or something, though. My cousins were disappointed. They played a Christmas episode of some sitcom that I didn't recognize. After that it was some celebrity thing, that I didn't bother watching.

I tried to sleep on the flight. I guess I did sleep, some, but not well. We landed in Oregon around seven in the morning. It was still dark, and it was raining. I remember descending through the rainclouds and looking down at the city below. There is something magical about rain and street lamps. It was a haunting scene, I thought. That is probably the only thing during the whole trip that -really- made me wish I had a camera.

My parents met us at the airport. My cousins' parents, too. They had the new baby with them. She was cute, and wearing a hat, but also possibly sleeping.

My parents both had some things to do at my dad's office (he is a prosthetist, and just recently opened his own private practice.) I ended up sleeping on his operating table thingy until around midday. Went home soon after that. I'd wanted to get home sooner, but it was probably good I didn't. If I'd been here I probably wouldn't have slept at all.

In summation: Hawaii is a profoundly over rated location, but neither is it in fact the hell on earth one might imagine it to be.

I hope you are happy... Ahh.. Cedric. Now it's your turn. =^.^=

~Charlie

*The insinuation that highschoolers have developed basic reasoning could also be considered an odd conclusion considering I'm in highschool.

Grandfather is taking me and my brother and cousins to Oahu for like a week. Leaving tomorrow, and back next Thursday, so I probably won't be on much or at all during that time.

I'm not entirely excited. Hawaii has never really sounded like my type of place, and I'm a little bit apprehensive about spending so much time alone with extended family. Which isn't to say I dislike them or anything. They're cool. I guess it's mostly my grandfather, who is a pastor. I don't have a problem with pastors, either, mind you, unless they are in a position to have any sort of expectations of me. =>.o= Haven't really felt very comfortable around him for years. He has lightened up a little over recent years, though, I think, so maybe I won't have anything to worry about.

I expect I'll be kinda busy there, but I am bringing a couple of lengthy books along just in case.

Anyway, see you people later.

~Charlie
